Why Heat Pumps?

Let’s imagine you're in an empty room and you want to sit down—but there's nowhere to sit. Which option sounds easier to you?

1. Go to the hardware store, buy some wood, cut it, shape it, glue and nail it all together?
2. Just go get the perfectly good, but empty, chair in the next room?

The answer is obviously #2, right? That’s how a heat pump works.

It moves heat—even in temperatures down to -30°C—from outside where it’s not useful, into your home where you want it. It doesn’t make heat by burning oil or wood, or by cranking electricity through a coil. It uses electricity to run a pump and literally pumps heat into (or out of) your home.

Heat pumps are also one of the most efficient and cost-effective ways to control your home’s climate. They’re environmentally friendly, quiet, and reliable—even in cold Canadian winters. Best of all, they provide both heating and cooling from a single system, making them perfect for Maritime homes.

If you’re thinking about making the switch or just want to understand your options better, we’re happy to answer any questions you have. We’ll help you find the right fit for your home and your budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. 1. What are your hours of operation?

Our normal hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. We do offer weekend service on a case-by-case basis. But you can call us anytime...before Ryan goes to bed.
  2. 2. What areas do you service?

We cover Minto, Chipman, and the entire Greater Grand Lake Area. If you’re nearby, we’re happy to help. We are happy to provide service outside of these areas as well, but a travel fee will need to be charged. While scheduling your appointment, we will inform you if a travel fee is required.
  3. 3. What brands of heat pumps do you work on for repairs?

We service anything under the sun. If they still make parts for it, then we can get it running.
  4. 4. What brands of heat pumps do you install?

We typically install Gree brand heat pumps by Dettson Industries. We've installed hundreds and our customers have been very happy with them. They are extremely reliable and cost effective. You're paying for performance and reliability, not a brand name sticker. We also install the occasional Keeprite and LG with great results.
  5. 5. How long does an installation take?

Most mini split, or ductless split (same machine, different name) heat pumps take between 2 and 4 hours depending on the complexity of the job. Larger ducted or central units are a multi-day process involving electricians, ductwork installers, and us. We'll do our best to give you a reasonable timeline up front.
  6. 6. Do you clean ductless and ducted systems?

Yes, we clean both mini-split (ductless) and traditional ducted systems, however we do not clean the ductwork itself. The process differs, but both benefit from regular maintenance.
  7. 7. Will a heat pump work in extreme cold?

Absolutely. The systems we install are rated for cold Canadian winters and can operate efficiently down to -25°C or -30°C depending on the model.

About Us

Hometown Heating & Cooling Ltd. was founded on a simple principle: treat people right and do the job right. After more than 17 years in the HVAC trade, I decided it was time to build something of my own—something local, personal, and focused on real, dependable service.

I started this company because I saw a gap in how HVAC services were being delivered in our area. Too many big companies treat small towns like afterthoughts. I wanted to give the people of Minto and the Grand Lake area a local option—someone who understands our needs and challenges. Small-town living doesn't mean you don't deserve to be a priority.

Because I live here too, every job matters to me. I’m not just working for customers; I’m working for my neighbors. That means I’ll do everything I can to treat your home and your heat pump like it was my own.

I’m also a fully licensed Red Seal HVAC technician. That certification isn’t just for show—it’s a mark of professional training, tested knowledge, and national standards. You wouldn’t let just anyone handle your electrical or plumbing. Heating and cooling is no different. If you ever wonder whether someone is qualified for the job, don’t be afraid to ask for their licenses. Professionals should be proud to show you proof of the hard work they’ve put into learning their trade.

I'm proud of my company, I'm proud of our community, and I’m excited to work with you to make your home a comfortable one.
